Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD is a mental health disorder that stems from experiencing or witnessing a life threatening event such as combat, natural disaster, car accident or sexual assault. Approximately 6% of the U.S. population will experience PTSD at some point during their lifetime. Approximately 12,000 adults per year will experience PTSD.

Signs and symptoms of PTSD include:
Reliving the event (nightmares, flashbacks, and being triggered by seeing, hearing, or smelling something that causes you to relive the event).
Avoidance (avoiding certain situations and/or people; talking or thinking about the event).
Increase in negative thoughts (feeling numb, developing lack of trust, guilt and/or shame).
Feeling on edge or "keyed up" (difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating, indulging in risky behaviors, and/or being easily startled by loud noises).

“Trauma creates changes you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change that you do choose.”

Ketamine Therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Ketamine is an NMDA receptor antagonist and an AMPA receptor stimulator. Stimulation of AMPA is essential for increasing the amounts of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). This is an important neurophysiological process responsible for stimulating formation of new receptors and synapses in the brain. This process is essential for making connections between neurons. For those patients suffering from PTSD, depression and other mood disorders, this process is often times significantly compromised.
Southwest Ohio Ketamine and IV Therapy offers a series of six ketamine infusions over a period of  6-weeks. Ketamine for PTSD can provide rapid symptom relief within hours to days after infusion and has approximately a 70-80% success rate.

If you or a loved one is suffering from treatment resistant PTSD and searching for alternative therapy, ketamine may be right for you. For more information or to schedule an appointment please contact us today.
